to try to answer ''stevie's'' dilemma , continue to use Oxycontin the way it is intended to be used , if , this poses a problem for your overall quality of life , ask your doc. to prescribe roxycodone 30mg , or 15mg , it is instant release , can't really be abused , unless you take more than prescribed , this touch's one the fundamental problem of all Opium based drugs , they have no ceiling limit , meaning , there is no limit to how many you can take EXCEPT your own tolerance , this is the problem with the poppy plant , and those that grow it for profit are all to aware of this fact . It is not talked about much , but , look it up , the amount of ''high'' one seeks is only likited by their own tolorance to whatever opium based drug is their poison of choice. This is scientific fact , not my opinion. Look up 'thebaine'(sp) the key component in any oxy based pain reliever. .... Just trying to help.

http://www.purduepharma.com/pressroom/news/20100405.htm

this is the article straight from purdue pharma site talkin all about the new formulation. And this is right out of that article

Product Shipment
The Company expects to begin shipping all dosage strengths of the reformulated product (10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg and 80 mg) to distributors and pharmacies during the third quarter of 2010, at which time Purdue will cease shipping the original formulation.

Any other questions I can help with?

Have been on OC for over 10 yrs for a botched surgery for my lower back which has been hell and robbed me of my life. Never have I crushed, snort or chewed them, they gave me some relief. These new OP are not giving me any relief. I will be voicing my opinion

You can no longer get the OCs here in Jacksonville FL. OPs have completely replaced them. If you just swallow the OCs like you are supposed to, you will notice no difference. If you used to suck the coating off and crush them up, those days are over. The OPs gum up as soon you add moisture. I suspect this will kill their sales and roxys/IRs will soon be as expensive as the OC(P)s are.

I personally think tht these companies make these to replace oc because they are cheaper to manufacture which means they can profit more in the end. Now what about the people who depend on one type of medication to help them with their pain. Some people are not prone to change a also believe that if something works then why change it. I also think that all that's going to happen is that users will just resort to using dope or maybe morphine sulfates. So really what problem are they accually solving. All that's happening is that the uses will just switch to using a different drug. Period. Now for I.V. Users they will also just resort to using a cheaper and more accessable drug such as herion. So all that happening is that the manufacturer is helping the street pharmacys drug dealers recieve more clientele ..

I have been on oc's 60mg 3x per day for 6 years now, I had a botched surgery which left me with severe nerve damage and 70% less abdomonal muscles. I am in severe pain even with the oc-60's the pain never goes away but they do allow me to have some of my life back, by bringing my pain level to a 3-4. I have been on the new op 60's for 2-weeks and my pain is definatly back up to a 7-8. I am a father, husband and a retired detective. I DO NOT ABUSE THEM!! I feel saddened by perdue's decision to change something that worked well for the people the took them as directed!! I am personally affected by the new op's as they simply dont work as well. I even pass them in my stool, whole pill intact!! PLEASE PERDUE, GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL MEDICATION, IF NOT, I WILL CHANGE COMPANIES ALONG WITH THE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO FEEL THE SAME WAY!!

been on ocxy 40's for over 5 years now, just got the new ones and noticing that they get passed in stool as a whole pill from what I can see, have noticed it a lot lately..... definitely do not work for pain like the old ones did, but even those were not helping like they used to, but now it is worse !

There is NO more original OC's being sent as of 3rd quarter 2010. So whatr you have take and use as a special occasion. There is NO other companyt hat makes OC's. So to threaten or calling Purdue will not have no effect to them. As one TV station reported as patients complain the patient name will be added to a data base and kinda blackballed as a user / addict. So if you complain to Dr. that a sign of abuse... DEA will always win ..

First, they did it with zanix, second, I already talked to my doc, she switched me to opana, haven't tried them yet but I guess there almost the same. Pain sux, living with pain on a daily basis is almost to hard to even comprehend, hope all you people find the right meds for yourself!!

Ok - 1st - I also get oxycontin legally and take it as directed, by mouth, and I also find there is a huge difference in the pain control. I was back to lying in bed 20 hrs a day. When I talked to my Dr. about switching my meds, he went a different route. Since I have so many allergies to so many different drugs, he switched my pharmacy to Walgreens and started prescribing Oxycodone ER 80 mg and I once again can go to my kids' games, make dinner, etc. You see, the replacement pills they gave me that day

Cont...were the same old OC/80 that i've been taking for the better part of 8 yrs. I live in MI and here Walgreens is the only pharmacy filling them. Unfortunately you have to jump thru quite a few hoops to get them, and can only do so w/ your DR.s help, but it is still possible. Also if anyone has ulcers and are taking the OP's - BE CAREFUL!!! I found out the hard way, that can be very dangerous. Good Luck to All

I take 80 mg. every 6 hours. I've been on these for almost 10 years. When the new formula came out, I didn't mind. I thought it would be the same since I took them properly. I was wrong, my problem is: stomach tenderness, and constant stomach pain(not constipation, lol). It takes forever to start any relief from pain and it doesnt seem to last as long. This is my first prescription of these, so I thought maybe my body needed time to get use to it. Now after reading all of the comments, I don't know what to expect.....I called my pharmacist, he said they were the exact same only new markings and slightly larger, but were the same other than that. I knew better, but just let it go. Nothing I could do about it.

Its a sad day when the FDA allows drug co. to put any type of plastic in your drug and not tell you. I have been admitted to hospital with liver problems since i started taking these. I wonder if there is a connection to it...and with all the pain i had and now have again, what is this, a form of genecide? But let the drug dealers go with stronger stuff that is illigal and anyone with cronic pain, kill them..lol new Obama Care? Also i amallergic to latex and silastic materials. How or what is this new stuff in oxycontin? Guess we really wont know cause the FDA likes to approve name changes of materials used.

I was really worried too...I actually take the 80's...but I have found that it is basically the same, but need to retake in 8 to 10 hours....Don't worry everyone...just take it as perscribed and you will be plesently suprised!

I talked to Perdue today, unless many more people fill out a form on the FDA.GOV website complaining of problems with the new oxycontin op, nothing will change. Go to www.FDA.gov file a complaint. If they get enough of these complaints, they will indeed go back to the original formula, even for a couple years untill another safe pill is made, good will to everyone dealing with daily pain, as it is no life but just existing that we all are doing.

I stumbled on this thread as I wasn't notified of the change, am in one he** of a lot of pain, just had my 4th surgery this year & damn my pain levels are through the roof. The ER doctor (yep, had to go to the ER) thought I might be going through withdrawls, but he wasn't sure. I assured him that no, I'm still taking my medication, still have some too, and wondered why I've been in SO much pain! I'm going to the doctor this morning & am very glad I found this thread & the notice. Yes, I was having problems with the meds used in surgery & had just gotten a refill about the time I had my last surgery. This is the 1st I've heard of this, I checked my tablets, which did look a little thicker than usual & YES! the 20mg tablets here are labeled with the OP on one side, the OC on the other. So... it seems that the ER visit was for nothing IF anyone here had been notified! Not even the ER doc here said anything about it & seemed perplexed... Now I know why I haven't been sleeping, been in more pain than I can take & WAS going to ask my doctor for a dosage increase. Perhaps I need to as for MS instead? This makes the clinical picture a whole lot more complicated, as I have no idea how much of this less I've been absorbing! Clearly enough to make my life a living h**. I've been on OC for well over 10 years and have been on 20mg 3x.day. It's no wonder I've been in bed, wasn't able to go to PT (was exhausted with pain/not sleeping) before I went into my last surgery. I couldn't figure out, nor could my doctors, what was going on. Was on a lot more NSAID shots that are likely messing with my kidneys.

I'm calling! Time to write on every pain list & board everyone & let everyone know what's going on!

My guess is new formula, no generics either?

Whenever MedCo gets involved with anything medical, it winds up costing me more!

MedCo may save their stockholders money, but they sure don't give a damn about patient care!

If there are people who want to abuse it, I say give it to them OTC, send them to an island & let them knock themselves out!

This War on Drugs has once again become a war against chronic pain patients!

I wonder what an ER visit, labs, chest X-Ray, ECG, IV & about 5 hours in the ER is going to cost? Not to mention the gas to get there & back & the pain I went through, the sleepless nights AND all the tests we're now going to have to re-do are all going to cost?

My choices are extremely limited already due to allergies & other health problems. I certainly don't need this right now! When were they planning to tell everyone? AFTER the ER visits & unnecessary tests that might have all been a direct result of this not-very-well-announced change in our medication?

Is this why just about every pain list & every other place on the web it seems have Rapid Detox clinics advertising all over the place? Like the one I see above where I am typing? And this is saving who money MedCo & PurDue?

When did you plan to tell my doctors? The ER doctors? My pharmacist?

It's no wonder between this & getting Toradol shots I've been having seizures again that I haven't had in over 10 YEARS! So kill the chronic pain patients, and detox those who don't have as fragile of health? Isn't the genocide? Certainly begs the question of ADA rights!

I'm NOT amused & now wonder how long this has been going on?
