Oxycodone Shortage At Walgreens

I too, went to get my monthly refil of oxycodone at Walgreens. None available. My pain pills are the only thing that allows me to lead a normal life; one without terrible, crippling pain. Do not know what I will do. Taking a large amount of over the counter pain meds is very bad and make me sick to my stomach.

Hello, Sydney! How are you doing? Did you try any other pharmacies?

This late in the year, there are often problems getting controlled substances filled, for two reasons...........

One: Each pharmacy is restricted on how much they can keep in stock each month, it is based on their size and amount of customers. Once they run out each month, they cannot order more, until the following month. This is a DEA directive.

And second: The DEA also restricts the manufacturers, they are each only allowed to manufacture a certain amount each year. Once they hit that limit, they cannot produce more, until into the new year, when they receive their new alloted amount from them.

Thus, there are 2 ways that shortages could occur.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

I recently went to Walgreen's to get my pain medicine filled. I have Lupus and a rod in my spine. I had spinal surgery when I was 14 years old. I'm now 43 years old. Then about a year ago I was diagnosed with Lupus. Boy, I thought I had it bad with the awful chronic back pain and didn't realize it was more to my story. I fell one day out of the blue for no reason. I didn't trip over anything or anyone, I simply fell. I went to the emergency room they ran test, took so much blood. I receive pain medicine as one of my maintenance medication along with my Lupus medicines and steroids. Went to Walgreen's they didn't have the ones I usually take they gave me some other medicine. These pain pills are weak. They do not help me with my pain management. It does help for at least and hour but then the pill wears off. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO TAKE MORE because they have none where I go every month. This is ridiculous! I am not receiving any relief whatsoever from any and all of my aches and pains. How long must I deal with this pill they call pain relief? When will they get my normal medicines at Walgreen's? I'm very frustrated at the moment. It's bad enough that I have to take this pain medication at all. Oh, I have tried other methods of relieving my pain for years. I have been to physical therapy so many times that I have lost count. I have used over the counter Ben gay, Hot and Cold patches etc etc..I even went to purchase a heating pad as my doctor suggested. It helps, but what do I do rid myself of the chest pains that comes from Lupus. What do I do when my arthritis gets so bad that it swells my feet up. What do I do when my spine in hurting so bad that all I can do to find any type of relief is to lay in my bed with my legs and feet propped up. When will they get the medication back at Walgreen's that actually helps with my pain?
