Oxycodone Hcl 10mg Dosage Question

I am currently taking oxycodone hcl ir 10mg 3 times a day as prescribed by my dr for 4 herniated disks with degeneration in my neck. I have very severe chronic pain in my neck, shoulder, and arm from this. The pills do help with the pain, but only last about 3 hours. which still leaves me in pain a lot of the day. Should I just inform my dr of this, or should I request a certain amount a day? I have been taking this amount for about 5 months now. I am not looking for a stronger pill, just more frequency of taking them. I do not have insurance, and can not afford extended release pills, as they are about 6-8 times the amount of money. I take my pills as prescribed, and do not abuse them.

Hello, Bob! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.

It would be best to inform your doctor of the problem, without asking for more pills, or a specific dose, because if you do, they may consider that drug seeking behavior.

As an alternative to Oxycontin, you may want to consider MS Contin, it is a time released formulation of Morphine and is available as a generic, so it is much cheaper.

The FDA classifies these medications as narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth.

Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?
