Oxycodone Acetaminophen 5 325 Shelf Life

I have oxycodone acetaminophen 5 325 from Nov.2012. Is it still usably effective?

If it's in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, then it expired and began to degrade one year after it was dispensed to you, due to the fact that those bottles expose them to heat, light and moisture. Thus, it would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor, if you require something for pain.

The FDA lists this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

The one year expiration date on pharmacy issued drugs is required by law and has nothing to do with the actual shelf life of a drug. A 3.9 million dollar DOD study and Harvard Medical found that 90% of evaluted drugs were still effective 5 to 15 years. Drug companies make more money by making people buy new drugs to replace "expired" drugs that are still effective.
