Oxycodone 30mg A51

I have been using Hydrocodon-Acet 5/325 AMN (or AMNEA) since surgery about
6 years ago. I don't take it as a regular med although for a month in the Re-hab I was given it at least once a day as a sleep aid. At home I took it as a pain reliever only when needed and lately I have been in need of sleep and take one at bed-time about twice a week. Now it is being treated as a narcotic and I am worried about it. I haven't seen the surgeon who did the last surgery since he saw me about 3 months after and he wanted to see me one more time. Unfortunately I could not get any more transportation to see him and so I cancelled. That was about 7 months ago. At that time I was sleeping better. Now I can't get any more of the Hydrocodone without his approval. I haven't asked my GP to do it. Should I?

To my knowledge Hydrocodone has always been considered a narcotic. But as to whether or not you should ask your GP to prescribe it, reoccurring pain is common for patients who've undergone surgery, and I don't see any reason why he/she wouldn't prescribe something like Hydrocodone as long as you have medical records that validate your word. However if you're only using this drug as a sleep aid, it may be a good idea to reword this to your doctor in such a way that says "Hydrocodone takes away the pain so that you CAN fall asleep", otherwise the GP could potentially get the wrong idea about why you truly need Hydrocodone and prescribe you a sleep aid instead. That's just my perspective, but I hope this helps!
