I just started Opana 30mg twice a day and I didn't think it was working either, but 4 days into in, my pain has decreased from an 8 to a 2-3. You have to be patient and allow several days for it to reach a steady level in your system. Be patient...it will work. I have taken less breakthrough meds over the past several days than over the past 10 years. All I need now is 1-2 per day. If you are really looking for pain relief I would highly recommend the opana, and I have tried all but the fentanyl patches. If your looking for a high, don't bother....but they do make me a little sleepy but I will take that over pain anyday!

Hello, Shelbygirl1970! Thank you for your very helpful post! I am glad that this medication is working for you.

And yes, that is correct. While narcotic analgesics do have some effect within 15 to 20 minutes of taking them, they tend to work best after they have been taken continuously for about a month. This allows them to reach their full level of efficacy in the body. That's why many are prescribed to be taken on a schedule and not as needed.

The FDA lists this medications as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Are there any questions or concerns?
