Can ms contin 100mg be taken with opana er 20mg?

Well MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine.

Opana ER contains Oxymorphone.

The Oxymorphine is much more powerful and only requires a fraction of the dose that was being taken of the Morphine.

Both are time released.

They also share the same side effect profiles: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

I was on Opana about 8 years ago but it was at a time that I was still working. After a few days of taking it I started to get dizzy, sleepy and my computer monitor appeared wavy. I couldn't work like that so I asked to have my old meds back. I wish I had never done that cuz now I'm permanently disabled and cannot seem to get my doc to put me back on Opana. I'm home every day and think I can get through the original side effects but now he refuses to switch me back. So if your doc gives you a new med try for at least a week or two before complaining about the side effects. I'm now back on the old pain meds and they aren't working as well as they once did. Just a word of advice that I wish someone had given me.

@peanutsmom. You dr may be wary of putting you back on Opana er because the manufacturer agreed to the FDA's request to pull the med from the market. So it won't be available much longer. Best of luck and hope you find a combination of meds that help
