I am finding that the Opana ER 30 mg isn't working very well for my Fibro pain, but it does work for the other pains I am having! Percocet does work for the Fibro pain, it takes the edge off, but unfortunately it doesn't last long then I have to take another 2! I wish they would make a Percocet ER!! Good luck with your search for pain management, its not that easy considering everything is "BAD" for your liver!!

They changed the make-up of the oxycontin(OC's) b/c too many ignornant a## people were overdosing and dieing or selling them and taking the $$$$ to go by crack cocaine/heroin with the $$$$. That's why they changed it.....a few bad apples did spoile the bunch.

I have been prescribed to opana er for a year and a half due to herniated discs, nerve root compression, degenerative discs, wrist surgeries and rheumatoid arthritis. Before Opana, I was taking count less amounts of percs and Vikadin, 15 a day, until i would get sick from all the Tyonal. I got refereed to a pain clinic which everyone should do if you have not already, and started with 3 5mg Opana's a day and 2 5mg percs when needed daily. I am now only on 2 15 mg opana er's daily and get prescribed a partial script to the opana ir's 10mg when needed for break through pain. My quality of life is excellent, and have no problems any more what so ever. I also have a lot of experience with the new op's which work very well if you take 3-4 as much as you would Opana. For example I take 30mg Opana daily, I would need at least 90mg of op to help with my pain. For everyone that is running out of their scripts early you need to know that there is an oxycotin substitute still available and that is Opana. Remember people you are in pain, and if your quality of life is bad you need to talk to your doctor, and if they are not willing to help you or give you a reasonable amount of meds, then always remember you are hiring your doctor, just because he/she will not help you, doesn't mean nobody else will. Go to another pain clinic, see your regular physician and explain the situation, and get another referral, after all you are paying them, it's your choice who you pay. It is always good to find a GOOD family physician for back up, in case you are taking off your meds or for whatever reason, you can always get another referral or have him prescribe you something until you get into another clinic. This is from my experience from the past few years and has helped me very much. Also for those of you who are running out early and test negative for your drug, it's vital you save a pill, or even half a pill for when you go and pick up your script, or communicate with your doctor and be reasonable with what more you may need, I am always honest with my doctor, if I run out early i make an appointment as soon as possible. Last time i ran out early was because at night i was taking another half sometimes when needed and ran out a week early, and told my doctor I think I need a partial script for night time. Be careful how you communicate use words and phrases like quality of life, not i don't feel it. Also if you have to snort your medication to help with your pain, then you are not being prescribed enough, the only way you know if you are prescribed enough is to take the meds orally and then take a look. Good luck all, and be safe. Thanks for your time. Any questions just ask.

Hi Shelley
For the record, they do make a Percocet ER, it's called Oxycontin. Percocet is simply Oxycodone and Tylenol. The 10-325's have 10mg of oxycodone and 325mg tylenol. Oxycontin is time released oxycodone with no tylenol and oxycodone, usually the 15mg or 30mg, is oxycodone fast acting. If you haven't tried oxycodone/oxycontin perhaps you should, it may help.

MY pain does not make me go one forums like these and argue with ppl that are truly in pain, we ate all in the same boat, and I thought we were all here to support each other through these times of days when some of us need help because we can't even get out of bed to do the regular daily things that "normal" ppl van do not yo be slandered and called junkies, when we have legit pain, it makes me furious to read that ppl need or think they need pain meds to get out of bed for EMOTIONAL PAIN, I THINK THESE PPL ARE ON THE WRONG FORUM AND SHOULD FIND ANOTHER THAT HAVE PPL TALKING ABOUT THE SAME TYPES OF THINGS, THAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH, this is a PAIN MANAGEMENT FORUM, FOR PPL ON legit pain meds to talk about side affects and their daily quality of life, not to lie and say your child got murdered, and than say it way a lie, just a senerio, that is so wrong!!!!!!! And that is what makes us so rude, not our meds, I feel of your not here yo help and give support to the next person living in excrushiating pain on a daily basis than you don't belong here, go somewhere else, AGAIN WE ARE HERE TO SUPPORT THE NEXT PERSON. AND PASS ANY WISDOM, OR PERSONAL EXPERIENCES THAT WE HAVE HOME THROUGH. SORRY FOR TAKING UP SO MUCH TIME BUT THAT WOMAN ARGUING ABOUT TAKING OXY 80 TO GET OUT OF BED FOR EMOTIONAL PAIN WAS COMPLETLY B.S TO ME, AND LET HER KNOW ABOUT HERSELF, AND EVERYTHING SHE WROTE AFTER THAT WAS SUCH S LIE, THAT IS WHAT MAKES ME RUDE, NOT MY MEDS!!!!!!!! THANKS FAMILY FOR LISTENING, AND O HOPE WE ARE ALL HERE FOR THE RIGHT REASONS, LIKE I EXPLAINED BEFORE, I WOULD LOVE TO HELP IF I CAN, AND I WOULD LOVE THE HELP IN RETURN;) THANK YOU DOUBLE J HAVE A BEAUTIFUL PAIN FREE NIGHT:) <3

#265-Opanasaveslifes(Fri 4/6/12 12:54PM)Thanks for the help with the opanas.Did you say if you were taking Opana ERs or Opana IRs??Actually,I don't even know if they make both?? All in All, this forum has been very informative and I've read about a few OverTheCounter tools that I am now going to try.I've struggled myself, in the past with the feeling of 'wanting' my pain meds,I'm so glad,it was the hardest struggle I've ever conquered, I fought and got over the want and only take my RXs by MOUTH every 4 hours IF NEEDED FOR (physical)PAIN.According to a pamphlet I read in Pain Clinic waiting room, statistics say that 94.6% of all ppl in chronic/permanent Pain do suffer from some type of psychological pain also.I know I suffer emotionally as well as physical pain on a daily Chronic basis.I will admit that when I take my pain meds my emotional state is better because I'm not suffering terribly from physical pain, just as if my emotional state is good, then my physical pain seems to improve a little, too. Again Thanks to all for the advice and information. BeSafe&TakeCare

Shelley--Try asking your Doc for OXYFAST.It's a liquid with a dropper and you use a few drops on the back of your tonge (tastes hhhhoooorrrriiiibbble) but the relief is almost instantainously!! I was prescribed it about 10 +/- yrs ago and it was great. Do a lil research and see if it is even still around,I don't know if it is,but it did help me way back when.

Ya,I would say the name calling is a lil immature and should stop. The problem I have with certain ppl that take pain meds and ask and/or give advice in this forum are the ppl that ask advice on diff ways/how to inject, sniff etc their narcotic pain meds.My RX bottle of narcotics says 'Take # tablet by mouth every #hours as needed for pain,so My problem is that if someone is asking for support and/or advice on how/ways to inject, sniff etc, their personal pain med PRESCRIPTION medicine, that if their RX bottle states to take 'orally or by mouth' & they are sniffing or injecting,IN MY OPINION ONLY, if they are sniffing and/or injecting then they are breaking the laws when it comes to prescription drugs.I've enjoyed this forum and I've received so much darn good advice and 'opinions' from ppls past experiences. If ppl continue to ask for advice on sniffing/injecting,I will not return to this forum because I do not want my postings to be on a forum that ppl are asking for advice on how to break the law. Thank You again to all that have helped me. TakeCare,BeSafe & BeWell---pain free,of course.

I usually get Opana ER 15mg generic, since they don't have a coating on the outside they seem to kick it a bit faster, this month i could only find one pharm in Chicago area that had 15's so I took what I could get and they were brand name, I feel like the brand name one's aren't working as well. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I've been taking Opana ever since it was re-legalized back in 2008-09 (oxymorphone was taken off the market entirely back in the 70's due to high abuse potential). Then, earlier this year, the only factory that produced Opana was closed down for safety reasons, reducing the availability of the Opana... right about the same time OCs were reformulated. So, MDs began switching their OC patients to Opana when Opana became much more difficult to come by. So the shortage has become so bad that the past several months I have been forced to take partial fills, forfeiting the remainder.

And guess what... they just announced that the same anti-abuse formulation that ruined the OCs is now being used in the production of the Opana Er's... yay!!!

My advice: Opana ER and IR do have generics available 7.5mg & 15 mg for Er, and 10 mg for IR). Most pharmacists don't know this, so you will have to request that your pharmacy order them in advance. This is the only way to get around the nasty reformulations of both meds.

Unfortunately, individuals paying out-of-pocket will still pay about $4/pill even for the generic oxymorphone. I was on Kadian a while ago, so I'm going to request the Ms Contin( if they haven't made that worthless yet), and hydromorphone for b/t. I was taking 3 x 40mg Opana daily, with no side effects, and no prns for b/t pain. Now, if my doctor is ok with mybe proposed switch, I will request a caffeine pump to be installed so I don't feel like a stoney-poney from the morphine/hydromorphine cocktail. In fact, I may need to ask my GP to put me back on Adderall to counteract the drowsy side-effects of the morphine... but only we CP patients can ever know the lengths one is made to go to in order to avoid the torture only we can know and understand.

"And she swallowed a spider to catch the fly..." Too few side effects? Well, let's see what we can do to get a new patent on a drug that already works so the junkies will be forced to turn to poison and violent, organized crime to get their fix.

I thought that the US believed in the theory of "innocent until proven guilty, so the innocent aren't made to sufree? Apparently, the same underlying principal does not apply to those of us who can't remember what a day without pain feels like.

I started on Oxycontin in 2004 due to a back and neck injury. When they switched from OC to OP I got sick, headaches and very little pain relief. My MD switched me to plain Morphine, but after a year Morphine is making me sick. my last dose on Oxy was 60MG 3X da, on Morphine 90MG 3X a day. On Opana 30 to 40MG 3X a day.

So anyway I was switched to Opana, I just noticed in my new precriptions that they are now round.
I went to ENDO web site and see that they bought the formula out and changed it as the Oxywas. Do not know the ingredient.
I do not crush, snort, shoot or abuse my meds. I am a retired injured on the job Paramedic and have see plenty of lives ruined by OD and death.
However I am now taking 40MG 4X a day for the same relief as my old 30MG 3X a day. I kid you not.
ENDO as PHARMA i hope you go broke, my MD will switch me to something else, hope its not from ENDO or PHARMA. Boycott these inconsiderate bastar__.

KEVIN D--I see that you are a paramedic living in CP like most of us on this forum.I'd like your OPINION on a few things if you have the time....First,I've never snorted, inj ETC my pain meds, only taken them orally as prescribed, can I ask what snorting does to you vs taking them orally? Is it a more intense PAIN RELIEF but shorter life, or is it a quicker pain relief and still short lived or what?? I've read alot and I mean alot of postings on diff forums and so many CP sufferers do snort their pain meds. As far as you stating that you've seen ppl ODing ETC on your job, are you saying that snorting these pain meds can make you OD quicker,as far as taking the same amt of MGs of pain meds taken orally vs same amt of MGs snorted or injected?? I'm so confused, need help like most ppl here. I'd love to get off all of my meds, but since that is not likely to happen, I'd love your opinion since you are in the medical field what you would suggest I talk to my pain doctor about.I currently take methadone(for pain relief,I do not and have never used any street drugs, just my prescription pain meds, yes narcotics) 10mgs X4 per day and Percocet 10/325 max 6X per day. After being on these meds for so many years they hardly touch my pain.I'm not looking for a high of any kind,I'd like my QUALITY OF LIFE to get a lil better, thats all.In this financial crisis we are all living in,although I am currently living on a very small SSDI check each month,I am going to have to find at least some type of part time job to help pay for my monthly ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY medical bills which are currently approx $350-$500 per month. I would really value your opinion and I will take it as that---your opinion. Thanks for any help you can give to me Have a good day

I'm wondering FROM ANYONE ON THIS FORUM--Do pain doctors prescribe stuff like adderall, ritalin etc for help with getting through the day without being 'body dead' and no energy from the taking of prescribed medicines?? I have an appt with my pain doctor this week and was wondering how I should go about telling/asking my doctor about the lack of energy and concentration and just plain lack of lust for everyday life anymore. Sounds like the adderall ritalin etc would be the way to go but I'm wondering with all the scrutiny that pain doctors and clinics get these days if that is something that they would even consider? (just a note--I've never had an issue with addiction/asking for early refills/asking for more mgs/etc.I have 2sign a yearly contract with my clinic stating I will only get an type of pain meds from them or if example: go to the ER for a broken/sprained bone,I have to advise them within a 24 time frame of any meds that I have prescribed to me) Any help on this would greatly be appreciated.
