They have been specially designed to prevent using them in an unintended manner. If you try to break them down, they turn into a gummy substance that retains its time released properties and can supposedly only be broken down by stomach acid.

Side effects are supposed to remain the same: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth.
