Does this medicine cause weight gain? I have been taking this medicine for 2 weeks and have gained 6 pounds.

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce the amount of acid the stomach produces to treat conditions such as heartburn, GERD and ulcers.

That said, no, weight gain is not a normal side effect, they can include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and flatulence.

I took Nexium for 2 years for acid reflux. I am now on omeprazole cr 40 mg. will I have to take these for 2 years too. why does this keep coming back. I am careful not to eat "trigger" foods.
