Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that's used to help reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach to treat or prevent conditions such as heartburn, GERD, ulcers and gastritis. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, flatulence and stomach pain.

You should follow the instructions on the packaging, or as provided by your doctor. Generally one is taken daily for several weeks. Prolonged use creates the risk of hip fractures.
