Old Pain Med

My husband got 2 teeth broken down to gum. He was in so much pain he went diving through medicine cabinet found old darvocet from 1997 took 2 of them. I'm freaking out since I saw date on them. Will these hurt him should I take him to hospital have his stomach pumped? Help im scared!

No, they don't turn into anything toxic, once they're expired. They just start to lose efficacy, so they don't work as well as they would have when they were new.

The best thing to do is to keep a close eye on him. This medication was pulled from the market by the FDA a few years ago, because they do create a risk of cardiac dangers, though it's usually only temporary, while someone is being treated with them. So, if he starts to experience an erratic heart beat, or anything, then he'll need to seek medical attention.

Taking too many of them could also result in overdose toxicity due the Acetaminophen in them.

Typical side effects may possibly also include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

The best thing to do is to dispose of any that are remaining and get him to a dentist.
