Old Formula Oxycontin

i have hear they are pulling the oxycontin op off of the shelf. once the ones already made are gone they are going back to the original formula. does anyone know if there is any truth to this. i heard reason was because, exspecially with older people, the ops are not digesting. cases of older people haveing bowell movements and the entire pill has not disssolved. this along with other problems.

No, so far they have not released any information stating that they are intending to return to the original formula.

When it comes to time released medications, it is often normal for someone to see the pill in their stool, because that is just the shell and is not digested. However, this doesn't mean that the medication has not been released.

Recently took my script of Oxycontin to the pharmacy only to find that they didn't have Oxy's in stock. They said it was a manufactoring problem. Now I get the real stuff, not generic and they called a 1/2 dozen pharmacy's and none of them had it. So I got only 40 of the 60 the script called for. Anyone else having problems getting this stuff filled? I have been on a stable dose of this for yrs, also taking percocet for breakthrough pain. Now I need to know what to do should I not be able to find the oxcy's once I run out of the 40 they gave me? How many percocet equal 20mg of oxy's twice per day? Thanks for whatever help you can give. Sharon

Sharon, you may want to contact your doctor to see if there is an alternative medication you can try.

The problem with using the Percocet, which contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone is that it is not time released, so it isn't going to give you the same pain control that you get from the Oxycontin.

There is, however, a time released Morphine that is also available, as a generic and under the name brand MS Contin.
