Odd Tastes

I have been taking Cmbalta for aout a year and have been experienceing a really bad, almost salty taste in my mouth for just about the same length of time. Has anyone out there had this same problem?

My dentist says that there is nothing he can find, so I am hoping that someone can help me out.

Please also let me know if you have experienced this same effect with other antidepressents. I take several and maybe it's one of those.

HELP! I am just about at the end of my rope.

Actually this is not really caused by the meds themselves, or any one in particular, it is caused by a very common side effect you experience from them. I was having a similar problem and thought it was a very odd side effect, then I started researching some info, and I discovered that the odd tastes, hypersensitive taste and other problems, can all be from the dry mouth that is a very common side effect of most antidepressants, as well as many other meds.

My problem is a hypersensitivity to flavors and spices, things I liked before, now taste way to strong and burn my mouth so I can't stand to eat them. I can't drink sugary sodas and my sensitivity to salt in food is just through the roof.

You can find some new products on the market to help with that dry mouth, and in turn, that will improve that taste problems, such as the new Oasis Mouthwash, made just for dry mouth sufferers from the same company that makes Sensodyne toothpaste. I just got a sample of it, and it is awesome, works great and it really does help. So will sucking on sugar free candies, chewing gum, sipping water and other beverages more often and etc.

Cymbalta has a more than a few side effects and is a relatively new drug, about 2 years on the market. I had a lot of trouble with dry mouth and bad tastes. My dentist suggested using Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash and it helped but too late for me because the dry mouth resulted in a very expensive deep root cleaning. This was a great shock to me because I have always taken good care of my teeth. However the Biotene helps somewhat with the bad taste and dry mouth. Because of the other side effects I stopped the Cymbalta 9 months ago and still have the dry mouth, bad taste problem and again because it is a new drug anything can happen and the doctors are not sure why.
