Not Sure If I Was Perscribed The Right Dosage (Top voted first)

I have been taking .150mcg of Levothyroxine for a few months now (been on several different dosages throughout the years) and when I went to have my levels retested this past Wed, the Dr told me that my levels were elevated so she was going to adjust my dose and call it in to my pharmacy. When I went to pick it up it was .175mcg...the pharmacist told me they upped my dose per day. This makes no sense to me. If my levels are elevated wouldn't they lower my dose? Could someone explain why this may be? Also, I am 6 months pregnant. Thank you!

That does seem unusual, since this is usually used to treat low-levels of this hormone. Have you tried consulting with your doctor? There amy have been a misunderstanding between her and the pharmacy.

Side effects to this medication may include: nausea, drowsiness, weight gain and insomnia.

Doctors test your levels of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) to determine if you need the dosage adjusted. If the TSH level is too high, your body is producing too much TSH to compensate for the low level of thyroid hormone, thyroxine. Therefore, you need your dosage increased to bring your TSH levels down. Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of thyroxine, which we normally produce. Once you get the correct dosage, your TSH levels should go down and stabilize.
