Not Available In Fl?

last month I had to drive 1hr to find 10mg Focalin. Doc increased it to 15mg. Nowhere to be found in or near Brooksville FL. Pharmacies say they can order it but can't guarantee they'll get it??? How can a medication simply not be available?? Called my hometown pharmacy in CT, they fedex'd it to me, apparently there's plenty in CT but not in FL? Anyone have any idea what's going on?

There are almost always shortages of controlled substance medications towards the end of the year. It's mainly due to mandatory manufacturing limits that are put in place to help control the supply. Florida had an additional problem this year, because many pharmacies were filling prescriptions for many people that were over the monthly limit.

For instance, say that monthly maximum amount that can be prescribed of something was 160 tablets, but someone's doctor prescribed 180, rather than question it and correct it, they were filling them anyway. The FDA and DEA are now enforcing these limits, so on top of the shortage, they can only order in a certain amount each month and once they are out, they are out for that month.

Your hometown pharmacy likely doesn't fill as many prescriptions for it, so they still had some in stock and if they regularly do a mail order service, then they were able to fill it for you with no problem.

Thanks so much for your reply. I just could not understand what was going on......had to go off med for week and a half as I attempted to get it filled the day before I ran out, not realizing no one had it!
