Norco And Marijuana
UpdatedIs there a new law in California prohibiting marijuana consumption while taking Norco? Wife has severe neck pain & fibromyalgia - used to take some marijuana to reduce pain cuz Norco was not enough! Now Kaiser tells my wife she can NOT take marijuana or they will stop Norco. True? A law or Kaiser rule?

Hi Larry,
To my knowledge and understanding of the situation with patients being able to utilize marijuana in conjunction with pain management, it seems to be solely based on the doctor's discretion (at least in California), where my mom has been a long term pain patient benefiting from the two forms of treatment, per her doctor's recommendation. I don't think it's as rare as some may believe, but there are physicians out there who do support medical marijuana and don't mind if their patients use it. The doctor my mom goes to (not sure of his name) is based in Los Angeles County - But this is a region of Southern California that has as many marijuana dispensaries as they do McDonalds (figuratively speaking)... so depending on where you live, perhaps it's just a matter of finding someone with an open mind.
Hope this helps!
I have PTSD, Crohn's Disease and also chronic pain from joint issues and endometriosis. These have been a serious struggle since 1998. With the exception of a few times for pain, I resisted doing Marijuana due to my upbringing and the stigma attached to the plant. However, in 2009 I decided to try it on a regular basis out of desperation in dealing with chronic pain, severe acute pain, lack of appetite, and PTSD. Back then, I was taking oxycodone to try to control the pain. I am still taking said medication as well as the marijuana and I cannot tell you how much the marijuana helps make the narcotic pain medication more effective. This is so wonderful because it makes it so I do not have to take as much of the narcotic pain medication for effective relief, on a short and long term basis. There is much more that I could say about all of this, but the gist is that I have found there is nothing to worry about with the use of narcotic pain medication in conjunction with marijuana. I hope this has helped.
