Hello fellow Drixoral users. I purchased three boxes of Drixoral from a canadian pharmacy back when this first happened. I have actually horded them. I found I can take Zyrtac-D for 4 or 5 days in a row before the feeling of coming down with the flu hits me, then I get out my trusty horded Drixoral. I just took the first pill out of the last blister pack so I'm getting ready to order from Canada again. Of course they have more than doubled in price since I ordered at the beginning of this fiasco! It looks like Canada will be getting a lot of American money because of this. I am going to call my doctor and ask about the Lodrane 24D. My own pharmacist is also a Drixoral user and can't believe this is happening!

I live in the southeast U.S. Here in North Carolina allergy sufferers like myself are suffering! I think it's crappy the way the manufacturer is not making a great product available. I too have problems when I don't take it. I usually take mine at night and don't have the sinus drainage problems in the morning. I too will be in the doctors office from the drainage...it goes into my chest and I end up with an upper respiratory infection! These drug companies make me sick! They know they have us just where they want us...and we are helpless to do anything about it! Shame on them!!!!!

My pharmacist told me that they reason why it was yanked from the market was b/c their is an ingredient in drixoral that is also used by drug dealers to make crystal meth. that is why in the past year, when you would go to buy it, it was behind the counter and you'd have to sign for it. They would only let you have 1 box at a time. It's not a coincedence that Canada has it and US does not...I don't know why they can't just tell us that.

Used up my last supply while in Switz. the Pharmacist in Nyon gave me something that seemed similar called VIRAL. A red and white time-released capsule. Am going to Sweden in a week and will search for something similar there. Suddenly it is no where to be found...that is bizzare!

How has this happened? I can't get chlortimatron either...it has just disappeared from the store shelves...for no apparent reason??

I called the company. They told me that they are NOT changing the formula for Drixoral. They are changing distribution companies so they will not be shipping for the rest of 2008.

I have taken Drixoral since it was only available by prescription many, many years ago. Drixoral is the only thing I have found to work on my allergies. A pharmasist told me to take a combination of chlorpheniramine and Pseudoephedrine and boy did I have intense insomnia. Eyes closed but wide awake all night. I can't wait to get the little green pill back. Someone really screwed this one up. They should be fired or at least suffer what we are suffering daily without the product. As they say.....if your not fired with enthusiasm, you will be.

Relief
I experimented with different combinations and I have relief. Try zertec (10 mg) and 120-240 mg of psuedoephrine. They provide me with 24 hours of relief. I was miserable for two months after drixoral was discontinued but this combination works almost as well as drixoral.

reading all the comments are way to familiar. I didn't realize so many people are in the same boat I am. I just spent $94 on 3 boxes from a canada pharmacy. She said they would not be able to purchase it for much longer! Why would they pull something that works!?

I remember several years ago Wal-Mart had a generic version for half the price of Drixoral but it went away after about a year. Always wondered why. I just found out today from my Sam's Club that the company quit making it. I've been taking it for over 30 years usually once a day. Only thing that works without putting me to sleep or giving me a rush. I feel more abandoned now than when they forbade Wal-Mart to sell the generic. If there is something out there that works as well, we should be told.

I have been taking Drixoral for about 22 years now. It was the only medication that helped my allergies.
A lot of companies have really screwed up on this one! I used to be able to buy it at Target for $5.99 for 20. I always went to Target to get it, because other stores charged $6.99 for 10, or $10.99 for 20. Then Target stopped carrying it about 2 years ago! I'm not sure why, because they couldn't keep it in stock!
Once the Gov't started cracking down on Meth heads, even fewer stores carried it. The cheapest place I could find it was Wal-Mart, and CVS had it but charged dearly for it.
Now I find out that its gone for a year! I just don't understand why other companies don't make this, because it was so effective! I used to get a generic from the pharmacy, and paid like $5 for a 30 day supply. Then all the generics went away. How is it that something that works so well for so many people, in fact seems to be the ONLY thing that works for many of us, disappears?
Somebody screwed up! I hope they fix it soon!

From what I understand Dimetapp Allergy Liqui-Gels have the same antihistamine. Just get something with just pseudoephedine in it and we are golden again!

I cannot take Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, which is what most of the decongestants utilize in their composition.

I can take Drixoral because it is a combination of Dexbrompheniramine Maleate and Pseudoephedrine Sulfate. There is a difference. So, please, long-time Drixoral users... when looking for a substitute, read the label. It is possible the Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride is contraindicated.

The following is the ingredient list from Drixoral:
Dexbrompheniramine Maleate 6 mg, Pseudoephedrine Sulfate 120 mg Inactive Ingredients Butylparaben, Calcium Sulfate, Carmuba Wax, Corn Starch, D&C Yellow #10 Aluminum Lake, FD&C Blue #1 Aluminum Lake, FD&C Yellow #6 Aluminum Lake, Gelatin, Lactose, Magnesium Stearate, Neutral Soap, Oleic Acid, Povidone, Rosin, Talc, White Wax, Zein, Acacia

First Seldane. Now Drixoral. It is likely the US Government and/or lawsuit industry is behind this in some way. Sad.

Is there any way to sue the pharmaceutical industry for not providing a necessary drug? Drixoral is incredibly effective whereas the newer allergy medications can only treat mild forms of allergy. The fact that it is no longer available in the US is sick.

DRIXORAL is a highly addictive OTC drug which even though helps you, gets you hooked for life.
I took it for years and had to stop it after it was taken off the market.
I had severe withdrawl symptoms that lasted a long time but I am finally off of it. I had terrible headaches, felt nauseated, tired, itchy, achy all over.
The government must know something they are not telling us if all other similar drugs have also vanished.
Watch out!
