Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic, it's very commonly used to treat UTIs. It should be used with caution in elderly patients, since they can be very sensitive to the side effects and may experience them to a greater degree than others.
Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
