Nitrofur Macr Med

I have been having recurrent utis for a long time, so I went to a specialist (urologist) to see what was causing them and if he could do something to stop me from getting them as much. I usually get one every 3-5 weeks. Very frequently. He put me on nitrofur and at first it seemed fine like it was working but then I started feeling REALLY sick. This past week and a half I have been in pain & I have been feeling drowsy, tired, weak, and like my body is shutting down. I have been hurting in my chest and having headaches and feeling like I am cramping but I am not on my period...he gave me the medicine saying to take it until my procedure that he is doing, a cystoscapy or something like that..I didn't take it the last night I was suppose to because I am in school and trying to find a job and I can't afford to feel like this. Yes, this is the preferred medication for treating or preventing UTIs, so it's likely he wanted you to take it as preventative.

However, it does cause those kinds of side effects in some people that take it.

Have you contacted the prescribing doctor? It just might not be the right medication for you to take.
