Nitrofur Macr 100 Mg Rash Duration

I took nitrofur macr 100 mg for 6 days of the 7 day prescription. I was having serious side effects, such as difficulty breathing, chills, intense nausea, and a skin rash. Within 24 hours of stopping the medication all of the side effects disappeared, except the skin rash. I have been off the medication for 3 days now and the rash is still present. Should I call a doctor or will it go away eventually on its own?

You should call your doctor to be sure and maybe get something to lessen the duration of the rash, but if that's all you have left, it's doubtful that it's anything dangerous, unless you see signs of the skin breaking and tearing, ulcerating, bleeding, turning black or other unusual symptoms.

However, those are signs of an allergy to the medication, so you will want to avoid taking it in the future and make sure that such information is listed in your medical records and with your pharmacy. Taking something again that you had this type of an allergy to will put you at serious risk of developing a life threatening complication in the future.

I had a similar issue last year with an allergy to Bactrim, I had the reaction in January and though most symptoms cleared up right away, it took a few weeks for the rash to go away and several months (June) for the hives to stop popping up….and I was 9 and a half days into a 10 day course!
