Nitro Fur Mac 50mg

My mother was given nitro furmac as result of several UTI infections year after year. Thinking the UTI was worsening and meds weren't working just yet, we didn't realize what was happening. She actually became non-responsive and had a stroke. All due to reaction of nitro furmac. Now on bactrim daily as a preventive antibiotic for infections. Not a concern in over a year.

Hi George,

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother's terrible experience with Nitrofurantoin. Although both medications have a long list of undesirable side effects, there's really no way of knowing ahead of time how you might react to one or the other until its too late. However I'm glad to hear that you were still able to pinpoint the problem none the less.

May I ask how long she's been taking the Bactrim for? Also curious to know if her doctor has expressed any concern of building up antibiotic resistant bacteria from taking it so frequently without an actual infection?
