Need Advice For Medicine Change
UpdatedI am currently taking tramadol for lower back pain and its no different then taking tylenol. My neighbor gets oxycodone for her pain and she gave me one to take so I could be comfortable. It worked way better. I actually got off the couch and got a lot more accomplished. How can I convince my doctor to change my medicine without having to say that I had to take someone else's medication? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Jessica,
It's funny you mention that tramadol had similar effects as tylenol since others on here have also complained about the nonexistent effects of this medication.
If you're to discuss this topic with your doctor in hopes of changing meds, I would suggest letting him know first that tramadol just isn't cutting it for you. If he legitimately gets the sense that the medication is too weak then I'm sure oxycodone would be one of his options for you.
I don't think it would be wise to bring up anything saying that you recently took it, but if it helps, I would personally approach him in a way that suggests or shows your interest in taking something along those lines & just see where it goes from there.
I hope this advice helps!
Thanks for the advice. I did go back to the doctor and told him that it wasn't working and it also gave me head aches so he switched me to tylenol 3. It's not doing much either. I work at a restaurant been there for 5 years and my pain is so bad I have to leave work early BC I can't. handle.going up and down all day. There aare so many people that try to fake it to support there habbit that I think my doctor is trying to avoid giving me anything strong enough to help. I understand the reasons bit im so miserable every day its just doesn't seem fair. I would hate to have to pay for it on the streets but im not sure how much longer I can take. Should I look for another doctor?
what is your diagnosis? It depends on what you have, then I could give u info, I'd rather know if it's for what diagnosis?
Unfortunately you hit the nail on the head. I go to the city to see my Doc. The majority of the problem is all the people in the city (don't want to sound prejudice) walk in the Doc office and say to the person they know ( Im here to get my pay check) meaning there script. It has made it very very hard for us people who have real problems with pain and such almost impossible to get good pain meds. Especially narcotic's which we all know are some of the best there is, but the Doc's are scared to loose there licence. Donot tell your Doc you are eating other's pills. You have to be convincing, I would tell them you know that your Doc is concerned and that you are not selling your meds and are not a junkie and you are willing to take a drug test to prove you are using your meds and not selling them. It also helps to have documentation of your problems to give merit to your needs. I have been on the Tramadol and it is crap. It's a new med and it is supose to trick the brain into telling you there is no pain that's what I was told anyway. I sure do not want to be taki8ng some new drug which who know's what the long term effect will be.I always call to find out if a new Doc will medicate me with what Im taking before I make a switch.. I simply ask the office manager if the Doc will prescribe pain killer's or Narcotic's if I have documentation of my trouble's. You could also look into a pain specialist or have your current doc refer you to one if he will not help you get out of pain. It's a shame that a few have to suffer because of a certain race that want's to totally abuse the system.
Sucks to lie, but tell them you got the percocet from the hospital, I've d out discovered a few meds that work for me by unfortunate hospital trips.
