Unless your doctor has some other solution, you'll most likely just have to let it runs its course, so it stops on its own.
One oral contraceptive tablet isn't enough to stop it, to help control your cycle, they need to be taken regularly. By taking one, you've thrown off your hormonal balance, so your period may be remain heavier and last a little longer than usual.
The FDA lists possible side effects as including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, irritability and break through bleeding.
If you want more control of it, in the future, you may want to talk to your doctor about taking one of these.
