Hi, Paul! Sorry that it's not working well for you.
There have actually been many posts similar to yours, since the formulation of the Oxycodone was changed. Many people have said that it doesn't work well for them anymore, plus it seems to be causing some odd, unexpected side effects.
The original formulation is no longer available, you can only get Oxycontin in this new formulation that's been specially formulated to help prevent abuse.
Learn more Oxycontin details here.
What I'd suggest is speaking to your doctor to see if there is an alternative medication that you can try.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Hi, I've been on the oxy 60mg the new "op" for like 3 mths. Now, they seem to working for me but from all the posts I think the people that have been on the old "oc" for a long time.....r the only people complaining that they do not work!!! So I cannot say anything about the new formulation yet, because I started on the new one!! But of course I also need the break thru pain relievers which is also oxycodone!!!! But I'm very interested in reading the stories of the people who have actually taken the old oxycotin vs. the new!! Who knows could i t all be in my head??? Because I do have to take a lot more of the break thru meds. In order to even function!!! So maybe they are not even working??
I live in canada and the new oxyneo didnt work for me so I got the generic wich is pms oxycodone er. It is the old formula. It works better for me ive had 5 major back surgeries.
Hi Cheetah, ive been on Oxycontin for a long time as I have a rare untreatable disease that causes extreme pain. The original formula work much better for me, as new formula OP doesnt always metabolise completely so I dont get my full dose. I also had terrible side effects from OP ex. Stomach cramps, headaches & night sweats which id wake up drenched & have to change my pj's & sheets at times. I never had these effects with original formula & i had much better pain control. Thankfully I live in Australia & we have a generic of original formula made by Sandoz. Its like any medications, some people can tolerate one brand & not another even though the actual medication is the same, its what other chemicals (fillers & binders) used in manufacturing may be harmful to different people. I feel making a medication out of silicone is not beneficial to anyone, we shouldn't eat plastic...it doesn't metabolise in our bodies properly, so you don't get all your medication ( the oxycodone is infused into the silicone to slowly release as it breaks down) I hope everyone has worked out any problems & are getting adequate pain relief.
Cheers..
This is unfortunately the way the med is going to be from now on thanks to the dumbasses that dont understand that some of us are legitimate users not dope heads looking for a high... the only thing that is remotely close is Zohydro which is pure hydrocodone with no filler or Tylenol and works well for a lot of people... it can be expensive if you dont have insurance
Very strange. I have travelled a lot and am prescribed OC, and the 60mg tablets have ALWAYS been a bright red. The brown Oxycontin are 15mg, 30mg being grey. Other strengths: 10mg white, 20mg pink, 40mg yellow, 80mg green and 120mg purple. Oh and the 5mg are a light blue, though I have never set eyes on that strength of tablet.
There are now generics available in the UK which all follow the same colour scheme. Qderm's LONGTEC are simply brand name Oxycontin in a different blister, made on the same line by the same company, absolutely identical but in fact the cheapest of the generics! Odd, and I would have thought illegal. A bit like old yellow Watson 853 hydrocodone/apap and the brand NORCO which are the same pills, but the difference is they have different imprints. Longtec carry the same 'OC' and strength - after all, they are the same thing...
Obviously your not from the US.....where all the old formula oxycontin is no longer allowed to be sold. The new type, (which are tamper resistant) are made by same company & are the same colours as previous.....the difference is new formula have OP on imprint & are made from a silicone material which makes them become a sticky gloopy mess when they come in contact with water. This is to deter abusers from being able to use in manner other than intended. This would be great if the new formula didnt come with its own set of problems.... causing headaches, stomach pains & inadequate pain relief. Its unfair & really quite cruel that government have thrown legitimate patients to the wolves, not caring how this is affecting the people its actually prescribed for. Its all about money, big pharmaceutical companies have patents that run out & in order to keep the lions share of consumers they need to reformulate & repatent the medication.
