No, these should not be taken together, because the Dextromethorphan in the Mucinex DM can elevate the levels of serotonin. That coupled with the Effexor creates the risk of your developing serotonin syndrome, which can be fatal.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Effexor as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.

It would be best to ask your doctor what would be safe for you to take.
