Muscle/nerve Ache With Eliquis And Niacin Or Statin (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Since starting Eliquis, I have felt much stiffer and sore in the mornings and during the day with muscle tightness in my neck and back affecting my upper arms. A general sense of early aging that is unpleasant. Anyone else with these symptoms?

Re: Ethel (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

My advice is to be patient here. I takes more than a few days to get back to NORMAL. It took me about 2 weeks to see results. You may see sooner, but don't count on it. If this continues, go see your doctor. Just my opinion here.

Re: David (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

One of the first and most prevalent side effects I encountered with Eliquis was shoulder and neck muscle tightness. This led to balance problems for me. I felt terrible. It also caused some mental fogginess for me. My leg muscles got so weak that I could not do my treadmill workouts. Normally, I brisk walked and jogged at about 4.0 MPH and 1 to 1.5% incline for about one hour, 3 times a week. On Eliquis, I was not able to do anything. I was MISERABLE. I am age 77, and have done the treadmill for 40 years. I switched to Coumadin, and now I am back to my old and VIBRANT self. No more of these "new" and tempting anti-coagulants for me. I NOW FEEL GREAT on Coumadin.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Hopefully the Xerelto will do much better for you. Yes, the doctors are conservative, and even when you have a successful ablation, they likely will continue patients on a blood thinner. That is what they subscribe to, and truthfully, they just do not want to see patients have a stroke. Everyone is unique, so I recommend that you have an in-depth discussion with your doc on this topic. You may change his or her mind, but I doubt it. That is reality.

Re: MAD MATT (# 181) Expand Referenced Message

I’m switching to Xarelto from Eliquis. I felt like I had MS on Eliquis. I couldn’t even walk into the stables to see my horse without sitting. One week off and I feel like a million bucks. Now I have to go on this other Xarelto. I had an ablation and it was successful. I confused why I have to take this crap. I’m praying it doesn’t cause me problems. Any thoughts?

I feel as if my muscle power has been compromised and were it not for my will power and grit I would not get from A to B. I watched a girl on TV who had been born with cerebral palsy trying to live an active life with a zimmer and she seemed to suffer from the same pain as I do on Apixaban. At her work she had to take time out to stretch and exercise her muscles to help stop them from going into spasm. I did have a similar feeling in my muscles when I was pregnant with my son; also when I had a fall on my back and suffered fibromyalgia symptoms where lots of muscles in my body were affected.

Re: M (# 179) Expand Referenced Message

Dear "M", so happy to hear that you are doing much better with Xerelto than you were with Eliquis. That is totally consistent with my experience. So hopefully this will continue for you. Yes, they are similar in action, but clearly the Xerelto was much better for me also. This is complex stuff. I am still doing very nicely with 5 mg of Coumadin, but thinking of going NATURAL soon......like Jazzy. Feel almost 100% since my switch to Coumadin almost 5 months ago. Running 12 miles per week (4 MPH) with full energy and no muscle pain or anything else.

I was able to go natural for 11 years. That's such a good choice when you can make it work.

Re: MAD MATT (# 177) Expand Referenced Message

Yes I agree I have had a bit of stiffness from the xarelto so I will watch. It is so much better than the eliquis it is unbelievable. It is strange because they are supposed to be very closely related.

Re: David (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Eliquis is like having MS. constant pain in the thighs, weakness, unable to stand for long. Total muscle weakness. It is the worst bleeder of all the thinners per my gall bladder surgeon and has the most side effects. Find another one.

Re: M (# 174) Expand Referenced Message

Hopefully the Xerelto will do nicely for you. However, be alert to potential muscle issues, since Xerelto works much the same way as Eliquis. And YES, going in for monthly checks is a little bit of a pain, but I am happy to do it instead of the alternative.....FEELING LIKE I AM AGE 100 WITH ELIQUIS. I may try to go natural soon with my particular issue.....slightly irregular heartbeat AFIB. We shall see here. I always like what JAZZY says....GO NATURAL with garlic, ginger, Vit c, etc. VERY TEMPTING.

The lead legs are due to Eliquis plies memory loss, fogginess, upset stomach and fatigue. I’ve been off of it for five days. I feel 20 years younger and like a million bucks.

Yes I have had horrible experiences. Very sore muscles and very weak. Almost like a person with MS. They ache so much I get little sleep. It upset my stomach as well and I felt like I lived in a fog. I’ve off it for five days and a I feel like a million bucks today. I’m done with it.

Re: MAD MATT (# 172) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks Mad Matt I was able to qualify for 10 mg per day on Xarelto and am told that the bleeding and bruising is not much worse then asprin at that level. I have been on Coumadin as well and got along very good i just don't have to watch my blood thin levels all the time with Xarelto. I am very active and doing mechanical and welding things quite often and have had no problems even though i often cut myself. No excessive bleeding that I have experienced at this lower dose and I have not had any DVT so very thankful. Hope anyone on eliquis with problems can find as much relief as I have.

My brother is experiencing the joint pain but his shoulder and neck and arm pain is the worst. And his feet freeze all the time, which makes him feel too cool all the time. I have another serious question; Has anyone been diagnosed with a blood disease since on Eliquis? Has your Dr found any malformed red blood cells during a routine blood test? I am curious about a theory of mine. Thank you.

Re: M (# 171) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, M, I also was on Xerelto for 6 months prior to switching to Eliquis. I switched to Eliquis because of excessive bruising. I am quite active. The bruising was much better with Eliquis, but then the muscle tightness and pain kicked in, along with me feeling like I aged 20 years in two months. So I tend to agree with you that Xerelto may be better here. But I have now been on Coumadin for 4 months, and I have virtually no side effects. Back to "normal", and I run about 12 miles a week on treadmill with full energy. With Eliquis, I could barely get on the treadmill. So I have been on all three, and I have to say Coumadin is best for ME. But everyone is different here. GOOD LUCK.

I am now on Xarelto since my surgery in May. I have little to no side effects. I would ask to try Xarelto if any of you are having stiffness and soreness. It is a night and day difference switching from eliquis. You can read my past 2 posts to see how awful it was.

Re: Jeanne (# 169) Expand Referenced Message

I haven’t had the memory loss and the weight gain I attributed to Metoprolol but I guess it could be the eliquis. But the lead legs I definitely think is the eliquis and I agree it seems like MS. Poor balance and legs just don’t want to work lol. Good luck to you

Re: Janice (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

Since being on Eliquis I have had immediate memory loss. I gained weight and am very tired which isn’t me. Worst of all, when I walk my legs get very weak. I feel like a person with MS. This is the worst for me. I sell real estate and must sit down instead of going throughout a house. That’s the one symptom I want to know if others have had. I take flecanide and dilthiazem but I think this is the culprit.

Re: Bren (# 166) Expand Referenced Message

Hi, you are not alone in this problem and if you read messages on this article you will no doubt see that I reply to lots of people. I originally had A.F but that's what TO said despite me being given the all clear by my Cardiologist. I had an Echo Cardiogram along with EGG and Carotid Scan all were negative however new doctor suggested I should take an Anticoagulant really I was never very happy about it but was told well you don't want to take a stroke do you. I then decided to start this wonder drug twice a day and I've now been on it for almost 3 years. It affects my Spinal Stenosis causing burning like pain in feet and legs and I can assure your doctor that I DO NOT have an arterial problem. I walk every day and do not sit about. I now have terrible burning pain at top of fingers. I have more episodes of IBS than ever before and that IS one of the side effects. I have terrible tinnitus, joint pain, including neck, knee and everywhere else there is a joint.
Throbbing sensation over sinus. Terrible insomnia, lucky if I get 2-3 hours of sleep. All in all, we ALL can't be wrong and I for one don't make this up and just wish I had never started it. The crowning factor about ELIQUIS there is no antidote that is of great concern to me and I just wonder how many people know that if you were to be in a road traffic accident you could simply just bored to death and that's not a joke.
