I have been taking 4 or 5 of the 15mg ir morphine pills per day for several months. I was having a lot of pain today, so I took another dose of 15mg ir pills about an hour ago. How long before I will have some relief and how long will it last?

I just read your post...did not see any replies, so here goes. First of all, you need to stay on top of your pain. Do NOT try to wait until it gets really severe for if you do, you will 'never' get it under control. 'Never being relative to how much you can stand, and when the edge is off enough for you to 'have a life'', so to speak. Take your meds on the first sign of break through pains, or spikes. Now, to answer the question you actually asked- normally, it takes between 20 to 45 minutes for pain medicines by mouth to start working on your pain. Also, do not listen to those who say "You are going to get addicted!", and the like. It has been well documented- proven- if you are truly in pain, pain medicines go to the sight of pain to do their work. If you are NOT truly in pain, but just want a high, then the pain meds go to the brain...for they have no place to go to work. This is why drug addicts lose their standard of life, and why those who are in pain regain their standard of life. We may become physically addicted- but they become physically and mentally addicted. I truly hope this has helped you and anyone else out there who have had questions concerning their meds and their pain. God Bless us all, and may our Doctors care enough to actually help us.
