Metronidazole And Nerve Damage
(Newest replies first)

Hi everyone I have peripheral nerve damage and muscle damage. I took this medication in 2012, been having a lot of problems since then, not sure it's all because of this drug, but been looking at it recently. First thing is that if I understand correctly this drug fights it's battle by changing the DNA of what it's trying to kill, then my question is does it also change the DNA of our bodies. I know that there is a line of antibiotics called FQ that does the same thing and recently they have been proven that they do change the DNA of our bodies and can let to more complication.i have also took these medicine in the past 03 and 08 , both for a dose only for other surgeries. The metronidazole I took for a week or so. If you look into the field of genre mutation, I then run into mitochondrial disorders and diseases, which I'm being checked for now via diagnostics that are looking for many possibilities of different gene sequences. Which most doctors thinks I'm crazy, but everything looks like a mitochondrial disorder that has been made much worse by these and other prescription medications that changes people DNA. I have a doctor that thinks it's a possibility and running the diagnostics trying to get an answer as to why I'm so messed up. I'm looking forward to anyone idea or suggestions..

The fact that they are studying it doesn't mean that it has been definitively proven to be the case, yet.
If it does come out as being proven, then clearly, I will have to change my information and learn the details on that, but at this time, it is not believed possible.
So far, the DNA changes that have been explored mostly involved fetuses or infants, where it hasn't totally formed, yet. They've not gotten anywhere near as far in their studies of adults, whose bodies have already fully formed their DNA strand.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
Where are you getting your information. .I have been on the FDA website and talked to them on the phone..There are study linking FQ antbotoics to changing DNA , no I didn't find one for metronidazole, but it is suspect because it works the same..on CNN there was story about a company that could fix ourDNA ..tThe problem is they don't know how to do it. .without causing more problems
Hello, Bluebabycakes! How are you?
It is not possible to alter human DNA like that. If it were, curing terminal illnesses, such as cancer, MS and AIDS would be much easier, because we could just eradicate the part of the person's genetic code that allowed them to catch it and replace it with other genes that might better resist them.
It is most likely that you have some disorder that you would have been prone to developing, anyway, even if you'd never taken this medication.
Have you gotten any answers, yet, as to what's wrong?
