I've been taking 20 mg lisinopril a day at 12 noon. I took it today at 12 noon, then my dr. changed it to 50 mg Metoprolol when I saw him this afternoon.
Question is, can I start the 50 mg Metoprolol at 12 tonight when I go to bed, even tho I took my last Lisinopril a 12 today? I get bad increase heart beat/pulse at night. He thinks the change in Rx might help.

Hello, Cheryl! How are you?

Did your doctor specify?

Are you supposed to take the Metoprolol twice a day?

If so, then most likely yes, they meant for you to start at bedtime, but if you're unsure, please call their office to check.

Metoprolol is classified by the FDA as a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, increased urination and hypotension.

Do you do anything else at night that might contribute to the issue, such as taking in more caffeine? Chocolate or sugary foods? Are you on any other medications?
