Metoprolol Succ Tab 50 Mg Er

Dr. Reddy's metoprolol succ er. RUN AWAY! Or have your doctor change your prescription. I took Dr. Reddy's metoprolol because my new insurance wouldn't pay for the brand I had been taking for 5 years. 6 weeks of waking up everyday with red and swollen feet, achy left pectoral region, a 2x increase in my dress size, and a voracious appetite made me stop my use of it and pay out of pocket for the brand. Within 3 days of being on my old medication, Toprol XL , I was feeling like myself again.

Sorry to hear about your experience with Dr Reddy's. However I'm glad to hear that you were able to get back on the Toprol XL again. What's interesting to me is that there's no real way of knowing ahead of time how you're going to react/respond to other brands/generics, even if they're the exact same medication.

The seemingly subtle differences that can be found in the list of inactive ingredients (binders/fillers) between various manufacturers can be a game changer in and of itself, since they often determine a pill's bioavailability, overall absorption, and even allergic reactions in many cases.

Another factor that you have to pay attention to with generics meds, is that the FDA allows a 20% variability in the amount of active ingredient(s) used in these medications. Doing the math.. this means that a 50mg generic tab could potentially only have 40mgs in it.

I hope this helps clear things up for anyone else trying to understand what might be going on with their medication.
