Metoprolol And Heart Beat
UpdatedI have tachycardia, that normally is only a problem if I get o er a certain weight, but last June I was electrocuted by my range hood and my weight is no longer an issue with the tachycardia, in fact now I also have issues with low heart rate... I only take half of a 25 mg Metropolol up to twice a day, because I also have low blood pressure to begin with. But even taking the half a metropolol right now is not helping me much. My heart rate is almost on a cycle of constant fluctuation. When using a monitor I can see the pulse rate and sinus rythym and at times it completely stops then jump starts again... Believe me I am one tired out cookie!!! I have had one night so far where I woke up in pain feeling like there was something sitting on my chest, I could feel my heartbeat, felt it stop a couple times and start back up again. Very hard to breathe everytime this happens. I have not followed up withy cardiologist since I was electrocuted, and I also had a car crash in January and the air bag deployed and SMS ked me square in the chest... Could either of these be causing the cha ges with my tachycardia? Used to be it would just jump up to like 130 or more then fall back to the 70s it this constant up down up down stop start is wearing me out! Anyone else have this?

Hello, Brenda! How are you?
You really need to consult your cardiologist about these issues, they are the only person that is going to be able to give you any answers and help you handle the problem, if it is a heart issue.
As to the Metoprolol, you said you take it up to twice a day? So are you saying that sometimes you don't take it twice, or don't take it, at all?
If so, that could be contributing to your problem right there. This medication must be taken regularly, in order to reach its full level of efficacy in the body, it's really not meant to just be taken on an as needed basis.
The FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, low heart rate and the palpitations that you have experienced.
Thanks for your reply! I have started taking it every day with my morning and night meds. Hoping it helps. But will consult my cardiologist as you suggest. Thank you
Hi - I take Metoprolol, Vitamin D3, and Potassium... I have had a fast heart rate while taking this. Is it normal?
Brenda, sounds to me like you've developed atrial fibrillation (Afib). Because these irregular heartbeats can cause strokes, I'd caution you to see a cardiologist asap.
