Methylprednisone 4 Mg Dosing

I usually take prednisone on an as needed basis but was prescribed this 7 day prescription. Can I take these only as needed or do I have to take all 6 on the first day?

You should take them as directed, 6 the first day, then 5 the next, then 4 and so on.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, and insomnia.

Why was it prescribed?
