Methadone Withdrawel

Just wondered if anybody has any experience of coming off 30ml of methadone and how long it took them really.Ive cut down over a year from 60ml to 30ml but am getting impatient and hoped I could get some idea of how much longer Ide be taking it for.Any input much appreciated, Thanks Nasa.

the slower you taper the better off you'll be. I have been told by countless people and the methadone watchdog forums that 30mgs in 1 year is a realistic goal. anything else and if you can actually make it through the physical withdrawls, the opiate receptor and endorphin depletion is what almost all but 10% can't make it through. Its called basically the blahs.. but BAD nothing makes you smile or happy or feel like doing anything and it can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years depending on drug use history and how long your on methadone and how high up you were.. Have a good foundation when you taper off - go to NA meetings or church or whatever it is works best for you, but not having a strong support system will almost guarantee your return to opiates and or methadone. - they need to make suboxone affordable and get everyone off methadone for good.. its far more addictive than the substances we're seeking recovery from

And Stormy just covered the major problem with Methadone, most people never get completely drug free, because they end up hooked on the Methadone itself and end up requiring a lifetime maintenance dose of it.

Said poster is also right on the fact that the slower you taper, the better off you'll be as any abrupt withdrawal can cause severe withdrawal symptoms, as well as rebound effects, such as severe pain, even if that's not what you were taking it for, to begin with.


I really wish you the best, but to do this right, you're going to have to continue to have patience.

I am trying to get off of methadone at the clinic that i go to. i have tapered down from 120mg to 45 mg in 1 yr,6mo. My counselor at the clinic is now making it hard to reach him so i can continue this process. He also said i cannot go on Suboxone,although they offer that. I know that these clinics dont want to let you go, HOW CAN I GET AWAY FROM THIS PLACE??? HELP!!!!!!

if u want 2 come off methadone go onto morphine,then come off the morphine,its easier.

coming off methadone is very hard,i always had problem with cross addiction eg stop methadone then back on heroin and visa/versa.if u go on morphine until methadone is out of ur system ,at least 6 weeks,then come off morphine,which wont b so difficult,then stop morphine by moving down 2 codeine,the lomotil 4 cramps and benzos 4 afew days only,it will b hard and there is no way of coming off any opoids without some withdrawl,good luck.

Slower the better because you will be severely suicidally depressed for up to 2 years. In the back of your mind as you get to 20, 15,etc, you'll dream of dancing syringes so know what. That voice in your head is 100% right. You'll never succeed

hi, i need some help, i am the girlfriend of a H addict, he is currently on 30ml of metadone which he has been taking for 6 weeks now , four weeks longer than he said his plan was ., the plan was to taper off 2ml every 3-5 days.
my questions are ;-
he has lost so much weight is this normal ?
he disappears , and there is always an excuse of somewhere he needs to be , whch never adds up, like he is looking for an excuse to go and score.this happens daily.
his sleep is shot , he is restless.
MONEY - he works for himself , makes money but there is never anything to show for it.
i love him , but my head is telling me that he is playing me for a fool.
when i ask him about coming off the methadone, he says his advisor is never avilable cos they have thousands of people on their books, so they very kindly just keep sending another script to the chemist, he has never been called back for a chat a test or anything.is this right?? any help suggestions , or a kick upthe backside for me , would b greatly appreciated.
it is killing my love for him ,and he never wants to discuss it with me.

He is still using girl. us as addicts don't wanna here our bull s*** n out sounds like he don't coke also methadone makes u gain weight also we see Our counselors once a month so he is definitely lying
