Methadone Taper While Pregnant

My Taper story-

BG: I was severely addicted to pain pills and started taking methadone in a MMT Clinic in August of 2014. Before I knew it i went all the way up to 75mg of liquid daily. I became tired of being chained to the clinic having to do U/A's and counseling weekly. No one in my life knew of my addiction to pills or that I went to MMT clinic in the first place so I had to constantly lie to everyone where I was going to get my dose daily, it became to much. Not to mention how unhealthy and sickly I had started to look. I eventually made the decision to begin to slowly taper off before I knew I was even pregnant.

I wanted to give some positive reassurance for any woman trying to do a successful taper off methadone while pregnant.. I did it at 28 weeks (last dose of-1mg-) and had a healthy baby! Of course it took extreme dedication and I was definitely determined and pushing the clinics Dr. That I was OK to do so, I also had to sign an against medical advice form but I was OK with doing so. I was already at a lower dose when I found out I was pregnant (21mg) and I did 1mg a week. The clinic did have me go in weekly to see the Dr since I was her second patient ever to taper when pregnant but I was also fine with that if it meant I'd be off the stuff and prevent my baby from having withdrawals and a NICU stay and cps involved. I did have MILD discomfort while tapering from 1mg to 0 such as leg and feet cramps RLS and slight diarrhea and tired. It lasted about a month and then I was ok. My obgyn was aware of my taper as well and when I hit 0mg she was able to take it off my medications chart. I ended up in labor exactly three months later to The day I stopped my last dose. (Ironically). I gave birth to a healthy 8lb baby and was able to go home with my baby in 24hrs. With no mention of methadone from any doctors or staff plus After going home everything was okay. My clinic had me worried a bit about low birth weight, etc. Turns out my baby was a bit big, and they Had it wrong. When I was tapering, I looked online for weeks and saw absolutely nothing on this subject so I thought I'd share my story in hopes of helping another mommy to be out who is wanting to taper but scared to do so. Any questions I'll happily answer.

Thank you for posting! I have found nearly nothing on the internet regarding this. I have been using approximately 90mg of oxycodone or hydrocone daily for about 5 years. I'm 7 weeks pregnant, and called the day I found out I was pregnant (4 weeks) they instructed me to taper down. I have been, but I'm unsure what they are going to do considering this medication is not prescribed to me.
