Methadone Clinic Experiences
UpdatedHas anyone at all ever had a positive experience at a methadone clinic?

The methadone clinic can be what you make of it. I went on it when I just could not afford to go through months of not being able to function to get clean again. It saved my life, I transitioned onto it without being sick at all (primarily because I still used at the very beginning tbh), but it gave me stability, helped me get away from the habits and the being sick and the fear, and helped me get back into recovery. I admit after years of prejudice against methadone as a means of recovery I was ashamed and embarrassed to be on it, but I was out of options. It turned out to be much different that I had imagined. Of course there are the people there who give clinics a bad name. But there are many who are weaning down, have take homes, have jobs and families and are using it how it is meant to be used. I personally am very grateful for it, but I have been stable for well over a year now and methadone seems to not really be agreeing with me mentally, and I have never been so depressed in my life. However, I AM alive and things are generally much better, now I just need to get off of it. The staff there are wonderful and caring, I have an amazing counselor who I absolutely love, and all in all it HAS been a positive experience. My one real complaint is I really wish they did U/A's instead of the swab. I never worried about this until a month ago when I got a positive swab for marijuana, which I have not smoked for 20 years, and got my take home doses suspended. This has been really upsetting for me, as I worked hard to get clean and I have always believed if you are truly doing the right thing you have nothing to worry about. WRONG. So now even though I am totally clean I am in a panic when I get swabbed and that is just wrong. But it is just more motivation to get off the methadone. I had never planned to be on it forever. I just wanted a way to get clean and stable and ease off it.
