I was a hospice nurse years ago when pharmacies had to compound this 5 agent anti-nausea medication. They could make it in a capsule or suppository form.
It contained:
10mg each of dexamethasone(Decadron) and motoclopramide(Reglan)
50mg of Dramamine,25 mg diphenhydramine(Benedryl) and 2mg of Cogentin. Originally used as an adjunct to chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, it became a highly therapeutic choice for hospice patients as well. Hospice contined to use it even after Zofran was introduced because it was a much less expensive alternative. And highly effective! The 5 different drugs each target a different nausea mechanism in the body i.e. brain, stomach etc so the patient could get immediate relief without having to figure out which nausea center was being affected. This compound brought desperately sought after relief for MANY hospice patients!!
