Medicine Side Effects Of Xarelto
UpdatedStarting taking 15mg (2x daily) of Xarelto approx 2 weeks ago. Skin itching started EN, no rash. Benedryl does help a little. Then the headahes began. Now, toes, feet, ankles and hands (I look like I have "Miss Piggy's hands in the a.m.) and must remain propped in bed in pillows to get relief. I'm 56, retired law enforcement, non-smoker, very seldom drink but did have total knee replacement surgery 9 months ago. What the hell happened!? I'm retired, divorced and on a fixed income and was told that I was basically a walking time bomb....that he (the hemotologist) was going to have to keep me on anti-coagulants for at least next 9 months, with a repeat CT Scan w/contrast scheduled for 6 months from now to see if the body has absorbed them. In the mean time, he doesn't want my heart rate to go sky rocketing up there or for me to get excited. Hell, I might as well enter a convent!

What is the condition that he's said makes you a walking time bomb?
Learn more Xarelto details here.
I'm not seeing these types of symptoms listed among the side effects, but you could be hypersensitive to the drug.
Have you tried any others, or just this one?
I was diagnosed with extensive multiple bilateral pulmonary embolisms. They didn't want to use clot busting drugs on me for fear of hemorraging. So, the clots are still in there, and they are treating them with anti-coagulants to keep them from getting larger or forming more. There's still a risk that one or more could break loose and travel to heart or brain. Chest still hurts and I'm not allowed to do anything that gets heart rate up. I'm so pissed off with my original knee surgeon that did the total knee replacement that dropped the ball. I complained to him that my calf and thigh was very painful post-op but he never sent me for a sonogram to check for clots. He knew my history of DVTs in both legs from knees down when I was pregnant 32 years ago! They have 2 theories. Either clots formed in the surgical leg, hung out for a while then traveled or I'm just one of those people who's body likes to produce clots whenever the body is under stress, pregnant, major surgery, etc. The knee surgery was 9 months ago, so they are leaning toward the second theory. I kind of think so too, because I find it hard to believe that clots would stay in the body that long before moving to lungs. Have been told that I will be prone to have this happen again for the rest of my life. Aside from cancer, this is next worse thing that could have happened because I'm petrified of needles! Had so damned many shots of Lovenox in my stomach that I had bruises the size of tennis balls! Couldn't handle Coumadin due to really nasty side effects. I think you are right about body being super sensitive to Xarelto because I'm allergic to about 11 different medications.
