No, you should not double up. You should either take it as soon as you remember, or if it's close to the time for your next dose, skip and just take the next scheduled dose, unless your doctor instructs otherwise.

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.
