This medication doesn't become toxic, once expired, but it does start to lose efficacy, so it will not work as well as it did, when new and, due to the Acetaminophen in it, it is not safe to double up, thus it would be best to dispose of them and have him obtain a new prescription from his doctor or dentist.
The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.
