M 57 71 Can Your Teeth Go Bad While On This Med

My husband was addicted to zanax, that problem behind us I recently found a few pills with marking 57 71 m on it ,well looked it up I see what it is, but can this make a person teeth start to decay? He has such a beautiful smile and now I'm noticing a few of his teeth look like they have cavities on the root by the gum can it be cuz of this pill he taking behind my back. Or should I look deeper. Need to know don't think I can handle another addiction. Please any response

This tablet is manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 10mgs of Methadone. The FDA classifies this as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

And yes, narcotics tend to leach minerals from the body and the dry mouth that they can cause allows bacteria to sit on the teeth longer than usual, both of which may result in decay. Many people on pain management for long periods of time, in addiction treatment, or who are addicted to narcotics struggle not to lose their teeth.
