Losartan Stop Taking It

I have been on Losartan 100mg for more then a year now with side effects I believe. I also take Metoprolol 50mg. I believe I am taking to much for my high blood pressure. I don't have the high blood pressure anymore but I would like to just take one of these.

There is no cure for high blood pressure, so you still have it, it's just that the medications are doing their job and keeping it down. Stopping one could cause it to begin going up, again.

You are not on a very high number of medications, nor are you taking very high doses. Multiple medications are often prescribed to help bring someone's blood pressure down as fast as possible.

You may be able to try stopping one, but you shouldn't do so, without your doctor's approval, because there is also a risk of a rebound effect that could result in dangerously elevated blood pressure and heart rate.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of these medications as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.

I guess I forgot to say I am taking 50mg metoprolol two in the morning and one at night with the Losartan. The side of affects are light headiness, drizzy all the time .Pain in my back under the shoulder blades. Headaches being sick to my stomach.

To be quite honest, when experiencing such side effects, I'd place the Metoprolol as the most likely culprit first. It tends to cause them far more often than the Losartan.

Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? They should be able to help you discontinue it and replace it with something that may work better for you.
