Hi jetta,
From what I could gather, the following three pain medications are also listed as having an oral liquid solution available:
methadone
oxycodone
dilaudid (hydromorphone)
There probably are many more options out there, but those are just a few possible alternatives I came across after a quick google search. I would also recommend discussing other options with your doctor, since he/she knows your medical history and can make certain suggestions based on what's worked for you in the past.
I hope this helps!
thank you david, they have replaced my lortab elixir with the hydrocodone 7.5/3.25 instead of 7.5/500-- i did not know they had an oral solution, last i checked all other available strengths were in pill form. I must say they were quick to get something on the shelves though. I believe it is the acetamin.... content...all meds with over 3.25 mg of tylenol is being discontinued from my understanding,,thanks again jetta
I have been taking hydrocodone elixir, currently 7.5/325, for a combination of reasons including pain, cough and regulation of spastic colon (primary reason for daily use) for a few years. Now that hydrocodone is going from III to II I think I will find it not worth the effort to continue with the elixir. However, I like the elixir over the pills. For one thing I am a lousy pill taker. For another I can titrate a dose for the spastic colon better. Can you suggest any elixir as substitute that will still be in III? And/or other suggestions? Thanks. (I am a 70+ male basically in very good health, never addicted to anything other than perhaps fishing. Do take meds for GERD and HBP)
NoLikeChange, the only other opioid that will be a Schedule III is Tylenol with Codeine Elixer. You do need to ask your Pharmacist about them discounting the Hydrocodone Elixer. The FDA did make manufacturers reduce the amount of tylenol in all prescription meds to not more than 325mg in Jan 2014. It is possible what the person who told you this was being discoutinued meant the 7.5/500 and not the 7.5/325.
