Long Term Morphine Effects

My husband is 71 years old, and has suffered from chronic pain for 11 years. What are the long term effects of taking morphine?

Morphine is a narcotic opiate, so long-term use can lead to physical dependence and if he suddenly stopped it he may experience withdrawal symptoms, which according to the FDA may include restlessness, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, diarrhea, vomiting and cold flashes.
