It would be best to avoid mixing it with milk, as that can sometimes affect how much of the antibiotic is absorbed, grapefruit juice should also be avoided, otherwise other juices or even some apple sauce should be fine, unless his doctor says otherwise.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
