Do lidocaine patches or albuterol inhalers affect a breathalyzer test?

Hello, Tammy! How are you?

There are many things that can cause a false reading on one of these, from cough syrups to mouthwash, as reported by the NIH and FDA.

That said, yes, albuterol has been known to do so, due to the fact that it contains a methyl group substance, which is something breathalyzers sense. Methyl groups are the primary chemical bonds found in alcohol.

You can google the connection and you'll find many articles and court cases regarding the effect that asthma inhalers can have on them.

Is there anything else I can help with?
