Levothyroxine Sodium 100mcg Tab Side Effects
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I had a total thyroid removal in June 2014. Was 1st put on 124mg of Levothyroxine, later 112 mg and swelling in both feet and legs began. My left leg looked like a stove pipe along with my swollen feet and toes. I developed hammer toes next to my large toe. Later I was placed on the 100mcg and the swelling continued. I spoke with my endorcrinologic who told me she could not help me but to speak with my general practitioner. To make a long story short I went to a heart doctor, had a mapping of my legs and found out I had small veins. I was told I had Lymphedema and was referred to a clinic. I did not go to this doctor. I started reading others emails on swelling and started cutting my pills like 3/4 in size on 10-20-2016. As of today I lost about 5lbs in weight and my right foot looks great, the left has gone down a lot, but not to what I had hoped. Also, I must get my feet and weight down for me to wear my shoes before the cold weather sets in. I am getting back into a couple of shoes but I want to wear all of my shoes. Hoping someone will address this with positive feedback. Thank you.

From what I could gather, NIH lists "swelling of the eyes, face, lips, throat, or tongue" as both an Allergy and as a Less Common Side Effect, but they didn't specifically mention anything pertaining to leg or feet swelling.

My personal speculation is that Levothyroxine probably was the cause of your reaction, not only based on your story, but I also don't get the sense that side effect lists are as transparent as they should be. All too often I see reports from individuals here on MedsChat who encounter some symptom that wasn't listed in the pamphlet or the internet, but they're allegedly not taking anything else and didn't experience the said side effect until after they started the medication (whichever drug it may be). It's just one way to narrow down the culprit I suppose. Hope you both are doing well! :)
