Leg Cramps - Is It A Side Effect From Metformin
UpdatedCan metformin cause a charley horse in the legs? I started metformin 500mg 9 days ago and starting on the 8th day I began experiencing really bad leg cramps.

Yes, the FDA does list muscle cramping as being a fairly common side effect of this medication, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence, and stomach pain.
Side effects are typically transient and should go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take about 4 to 5 weeks.
Are you on any other medications?
