Kidney damage, as well as damage to other organs, most notable the liver, is fairly common in anyone who uses these types of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories for long periods of time, especially if you regularly take or exceed the maximum recommended daily dose.
Your doctor will have to keep close tabs on the condition of your kidneys from now on, watching for signs of worsening damage or complete failure, they will also not want you taking anymore of these types of medicine that could cause further damage, such as Acetaminopen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil.)
