Hello, Jerri! How is your husband doing? I'm so sorry that he's so ill.
And yes, there are IV medications that a home RN could administer, there are also skin patches available that contain a very potent narcotic called Fentanyl, so they might help him more, too.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Has his doctor made any suggestions?
I am very sorry to hear about your husband I wish you the best and you'll be in my prayers. As someone that was a medic for over 13 years and are in can administer dilaudid I would probably ask to start out at a 4 mg dose IV and possibly install a pain pump so he can administer it himself when needed within time some of the downfalls to this medication or other narcotics his respiratory depression because he has long cancer and his Longs are not performing as well it could be dangerous there's a balance to be given between pain relief and respiratory depression that could cause death I wish you the best other medications would include fental and also exalgo that is time released dilaudid
